I arrived just after sunrise in Pikhakendonk ONFF-323.
Temperature around 4°C and a chilly wind made putting up the antenna
not the most funny job to do. Once warm in my back-seat-shack the
pile-up warmed me up pretty soon.
Not much later the local forester came to say hello, he left with the
idea that I was doing some kind of FOX-hunting. With the many
bloodthirsty foxes in the area he was a happy man.
On 40 meter I worked the pile-up really to the bottom. On 20m again
not much QSO’s. Will have to improve my antenna on that band. I’m
thinking of homebrewing a G5RV junior. Or any suggestions ?
I ended with 221 QSO’s in 25 DXCC countries in the log.

Celebration time did not last very long. Public transport in strike and an very bad traffic jam direction Brussels, the way to 209 …
When arrived in the area it was a hell of a job to find the nature park : ded-end streets, one-way streets etc made me coming about half an hour later than planned in the “Vogelzangstraat”. If you ever like to activate this one I might be your guide ! Not one sign to find refering to ‘Nico de BouvĂ©’ … only a small sign saying this is protected bird area from “DE Wielewaal” … that’s it. Already a bit stressed we started the activation.
The stress disappeared during running the pile-up, in the meantime watching playing rabbits just a few meters before me. This was also the first test for my new portable headset from Heil … needs some fine tuning but it worked.
Also an unicum is that I made a few CW QSO’s ! Very QRS, I’m getting nervous from CW pile-ups and my CW skills are not that good. But we did, something we will do also on next activations. My challenge for 2015 is to be able to manage a CW pile-up !
I ended with 155 QSO’s in 22 DXCC countries.

ONFF-371 Hoge Kempen
Call: OR4D/p/p
QSO's: 278
Date : 21-03-2015
Operators: ON7UZ (Dominique) & PE2KMV (Ronald) & ON3HCO (Hans) & ON3BRF (Marc) & PB1SAM (Pascal)
Location: Maasmechelen
ONFF-371 geactiveerd.
verwachten was. Hans

One that was on my list for some time : ONFF-396 Houterenberg-Pinnekensvijver in Engsbergen (Tessenderlo province Limburg). Overcasted and a little rain at my depart but when I arrived in this awesome landscape it was dry, but still cold. Putting up the antenna is not the big job anymore after installing it so often in the past … it only takes me 10 minutes to be on the air.
20 meter was as good as dead so I decided to go on 40 meter. The pile up started and only ended after 218 QSO’s in the log in 24 different countries. Glad to give a new one to all WWFF-hunters !
All QSO’s are confirmed by eQSL, LoTW, QRZ.com. Paper QSL only on reply or request via ON4VT.

Not having my best day (physically) but as my Norwegian buddy LA9XGA always says : “Keep fighting !“. We are both suffering from chronical pain. So my activations are always depending on first how I feel and second the WX and the accessibility of the ONFF reference … I’m not able to carry all the stuff over a long way, also the reason I’m not activating SOTA.
The weather was too good to sit inside despite the never ending pain feeling … so decided to go out and activate another ONFF reference : ONFF-213 Pommelsven in Keerbergen (VB), never activated before. Conditions were not in my favour : worked “only” 125 stations in 22 different DXCC countries. 40 meter was OK, 20 meter not that good.
During my activation good old friend ON4CB, Kurt, took the time to visit me. Always a pleasure to be able having a talk during the coffee break. Also my second operator “Julleke” was with me this time.

I knocked another reference from the noy-yet-activated-list : ONFF-434 Teunenberg Olen (AN). With a -1C temperature but extraordinary sunrise I installed the antenna, at 7h11UTC I made the first QSO.
Teunenberg is a previous army camp, the relicts of the camp are everywhere. The antenna was placed above an old water bassin, the reflection was superb. It resulted in 236 QSO’s (a personal activation record) with 31 DXCC and 2 continents (EU & AS). I was looking for some longpath VK-ZL-JA contacts but conditions must have been not that good to make it.
Up to next activation !
